Training for digital Research Technical Professionals
As part of the work within STEP-UP to develop technical communities and career opportunities, we recognise the importance of providing ways to develop technical skills.
A key element of STEP-UP is our aim to recognise the importance of skill development across all the “dRTP pillars” - software, data and computing infrastructure - at all levels of expertise, from beginner, through intermediate to advanced training.
While the project can’t offer a comprehensive programme of training across all areas at all skill levels, we are able to offer a wide variety of training and will be launching our programme of training delivery soon.
In the meantime, if you are keen to work with us to provide training to members of your team or community, feel free to get in touch with us to discuss opportunities.
Training that we plan to offer in the coming months includes:
- Basic research computing training through Software Carpentry workshops covering use of the bash shell, version control with Git, and an introduction to programming in Python or R.
- Working with containers - an introduction to Podman/Docker and Singularity
- Research data stewardship and data management training
- Introductory High Performance Computing (HPC) training
